Bio

Jonathan James is an associate attorney at Hance Law Group and serves clients across North Texas. When emotions and financial stakes are high, Jonathan represents clients with steady resolve and decisive advocacy to achieve their goals. Jonathan is committed to serving clients with integrity, unmatched work ethic, and thorough preparation and review of all aspects of a legal matter.

With an exclusive focus on family law matters, Jonathan has extensive experience with complex property divorces, custody disputes and modifications, high profile cases, and pre-marital and post-marital agreements.  Whether in the courtroom or in mediation, Jonathan is a highly skilled litigator and negotiator in high conflict legal situations.

Jonathan consistently receives praise from his former clients for his integrity, professionalism, and responsiveness. Jonathan makes every effort to synthesize and explain complex legal issues to his clients in order best prepare and inform them throughout their case. Whether his client is an executive, a stay-at-home parent, a small business owner, or a grandparent, Jonathan understands that each family law situation is unique and dynamic.  With this in mind, Jonathan takes a caring, client-centered approach to customize a plan for each client to help them achieve their goals. Throughout the process Jonathan is thorough in preparing his clients for each step while remaining available to answer questions that will come up during the process.  

Jonathan is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is licensed to practice in state trial and appellate courts in Texas. He is also trained in Collaborative Divorce. Jonathan invests his time doing pro bono work for victims of domestic violence in partnership with Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support and Emily’s Place. He is a member of the Annette Stewart Inn of Court and the Dallas Bar Association Family Law Section. Jonathan also frequently writes on numerous family law topics for the Texas Bar Journal, the Dallas Bar Association Headnotes, and the State Bar of Texas Family Law Section.

Jonathan was born and raised in Plano, Texas, and attended Canyon Creek Christian Academy. After completing his undergraduate degree at Baylor University, he attended Texas Wesleyan School of Law (now Texas A&M School of Law) in Fort Worth. 

Jonathan and his wife Emily are high school sweethearts and have a son, a daughter, and two Labrador retrievers. When not consuming content from numerous podcasts, articles, and the news, Jonathan is an active member of his church and enjoys participating in community service projects, trivia nights, playing golf, and playing bass guitar on the worship team.
